 CANOEING

For friends and family, church and scout groups, beginners and experts alike, all will enjoy the Caddo. The river has several really good swimming holes, and places to fish along the way, but Class I and II rapids are frequent and help do much of the "paddling" for you. In the late summer you may have to do more of the paddling yourself, but generally the Caddo stays a pretty good float, and in fact it's one of the most consistent floating rivers in Arkansas.

Do you have your own Canoe?
No problem, we provide shuttles at a fair rate.

Recommended Routes:

"Scenery along the river is excellent, with heavily forested ridges,
rock outcroppings, translucent green water, an abundance of native animal and plant life,
and excellent fishing."
- Marc W. McCord of Southwest Paddler.

Caddo Gap to Glenwood
is our most popular float by far. It is 7.5 miles and takes 4-6 hours.

Norman to Caddo Gap is 8 miles and can only be floated when the water is 6 ft. or above. The flow can be very fast and difficult for unexperienced paddlers. At normal water levels, the flow will be insufficient. 3-5 hours.

Glenwood to Amity 182 Landing is 8 miles of river where the rapids become tamer and the pools lengthen. The good gravel bars along the riverbanks make excellent primitive campsites for overnight trippers. 4-7 hours.

Amity 182 to 84 is just over 5 miles. The route requires pre-arranging, additional shuttle fees, and a specific pick-up time. This route will not be available on summer holiday weekends.

NOTE: All paddling times given are approximate and will vary according to weather, water conditions, and the progress paddlers make down the river. You may spend as long as you like paddling and enjoying your trip, but we do require all one-day trips to return rented equipment before dusk. Please plan your progress accordingly.

Reservations & Deposits

Reservations are recommended for the weekends in particular. Reservations may be made by phone or mail. Phone reservations may be made from 8am to 5pm, 7 days a week. Leave a message if we can't catch the phone in time and we will call you back shortly. A visa or master card is needed to hold the boats for you, but will not be charged in advance.

By mail, a $10 per canoe/kayak deposit is required at least three (3) days prior to the float date. Canoes will only be held until 11am of the reserved date unless we are notified of a later arrival time.

River Level

So if the river's at "6.5" feet...
...what does that mean?

To check the Current River Level at the Hwy 240 Bridge at Caddo Gap, please click on the following link:

Gauge height in feet:

Low:        5.40 - 5.75
Some rocks at 5.75 to start having to get around,
great range for inexperienced boaters though.

                 Anything in this range
 is still floatable, but p
ack light!
Medium:  5.75 - 7.25

Great floating, few rocks, more boat control
                 (BEST RANGE)

Higher:    7.25 - 8.75

A fast-paced float for experienced boaters with almost
every rapid washed out above 7.50

Flood:      8.75 or greater

At 8.50 feet the river is starting to spread into flood
plain and running through dense strainers.
                 Cross currents become powerful.
                 Correct route is most important.
No rentals go out at this level.

State River Laws

Please click on the link below to be sure you're familiar with the things you
can and can not have on the river.  We do provide each floater with life
jackets, and also provide those boats bringing coolers with mesh bags,
 unless you bring your own.
